This week, the new Instagram-like app, Flashes, launched on the App Store. In just 24 hours, it gained nearly 30,000 downloads. Users can upload four photos or videos up to one minute long, making it easy to share moments.
Developed by Sebastian Vogelsang in Berlin, Flashes is built on the AT Protocol, the same technology behind Bluesky. This means it taps into a growing community of over 32 million Bluesky users.
With Flashes, your posts can go beyond just the app. They can also connect with Bluesky users, expanding your audience.
Flashes stands out with its customization options. Unlike platforms with restrictive algorithms, users can explore over 50,000 custom feeds on Bluesky. This allows for a tailored content experience, alongside standard feeds for trending and recent posts.
For photographers, Flashes offers special features. A “Portfolio Mode” lets you showcase your best work prominently on your profile. You can edit images with built-in filters, adding a creative touch.
There’s also a focus on curated content. Flashes is launching with images from the Blacksky community, which creates tools tailored for Black users, including unique feeds and moderation services.
Vogelsang has started discussing funding with investors. As of Thursday, Flashes reached 40,500 downloads and is just one of many apps leveraging the Bluesky platform.
