WSDS 2025: Celebrating a Unified Global Commitment to Inclusive Climate Action

08 March 2025, New Delhi: The World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2025 wrapped up after three days of inspiring discussions and commitments for a greener future. Hosted by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), this year’s summit focused on the importance of teamwork to tackle pressing sustainability issues.

On the final day, Mr. Nitin Desai, Chairman of TERI, kicked off the session by emphasizing that open dialogue is essential. He stated, “Sustainable development connects two key groups: those who prioritize development and those focused on protecting the environment. Our challenge is clear—how do we promote growth without harming the planet?”

In a video message, Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, the UN’s Deputy Secretary-General, reminded participants of the urgent need for climate action. She pointed out that hunger is rising, and temperatures have reached record highs. “We must hold on to hope and work towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This is our path forward for people and the planet,” she said.

Ms. Dia Mirza, an actor and UNEP Goodwill Ambassador, delivered a heartfelt keynote address. She spoke about the strength of both individual and collective efforts in fighting climate change. “The journey may be tough, and doubt may arise. But if we unite with a commitment to justice, equity, and sustainability, we can meet the challenges ahead. Our ‘Act4Earth’ movement encourages everyone to engage with the Earth responsibly,” she explained. “It’s not just about recycling—it’s about how we choose to interact with our world.”

Mr. Martin Raiser from the World Bank stressed the need for sustainable financing and global support. He noted, “The WSDS is a fantastic platform to share ideas that drive change. India is well-positioned to be a leader in the green transition, given its vast resources and necessity to adapt to climate impacts.”

The summit also celebrated the achievements of young climate leaders by honoring the winners of the Youth Climate Conclave. Dr. Livleen Kahlon from TERI presented the ‘Youth Pledge,’ highlighting the vital role of youth in leading the charge toward a sustainable future.

Dr. Shailly Kedia unveiled the Act4Earth 2025 Manifesto, setting out goals for future sustainability efforts. She mentioned that next year will mark 25 years of the WSDS, celebrating a quarter-century of commitment to climate action.

Dr. Vibha Dhawan, Director General of TERI, concluded the event with words of gratitude. She recognized the contributions of global leaders and stressed the importance of collaboration. “This year’s theme was all about partnerships. We leave here filled with ideas that will guide us in confronting future challenges,” she said.

As WSDS 2025 came to an end, it reaffirmed the need for ongoing cooperation, innovative policies, and collective action to ensure a sustainable future for everyone.
