Tragic Update: Three of Four Missing US Soldiers in Lithuania Found Deceased

Three of the four US soldiers who went missing in Lithuania have been found deceased. Their armored vehicle was retrieved from a peat bog after a six-day search by local and foreign forces, including the US, Polish, and Lithuanian military. The fourth soldier is still unaccounted for.

The soldiers were part of a tactical training exercise when they disappeared near Pabradė, close to the Belarus border. Major General Christopher Norrie, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division, extended his condolences to the families. He emphasized the dedication of the search teams, stating, “The search isn’t finished until everyone is home.”

A massive recovery operation involved hundreds of rescuers, engineers, and divers. Special equipment, including helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles, aided the mission. Teams were challenged as they worked through thick mud and murky conditions, with divers facing zero visibility while trying to locate the vehicle.

The vehicle, a 63-tonne M88 Hercules armored recovery vehicle, was finally pulled from the bog after careful coordination and additional machinery support. The operation showcased impressive teamwork, with a commitment to finding the missing soldier still evident.
