Thrilling Victory: SCSU Baseball Triumphs Over New Haven with a 14-7 Win!

Southern Connecticut’s baseball team recently took down New Haven with a score of 14-7, marking an important win in the Northeast-10 Conference. This victory improved Southern’s record to 15-9, while New Haven slipped to 15-8 overall.

Brennan Staubley shined in the game, achieving his third consecutive game with multiple hits. He went 2-for-5, including a significant RBI double and two runs scored. Spencer Chard also had a standout performance, scoring four runs and stealing two bases. Other notable players included Jake Gruttadauria, who also went 2-for-5, and Patrick Dillon, who batted 3-for-5, contributing three runs and an RBI. Zak Droukas drove in three runs, showcasing an outstanding offensive effort from the Owls.

On the pitching side, Spencer Fox earned the win after relieving. He kept New Haven at bay, allowing just one run on seven hits and striking out seven batters in six innings.

The game got off to a strong start for Southern when Spencer Chard walked to kick things off. Brennan Staubley capitalized on an error by New Haven’s right fielder, resulting in a quick two-run lead for the Owls. Southern continued to build their lead, scoring multiple times in quick succession.

In the third inning, the Owls added another run with a sacrifice fly from Zak Droukas, bringing the score to 6-1. They kept the momentum going, tallying four more runs in the fourth, with key hits coming from Chard, Staubley, and Gruttadauria.

Despite New Haven managing to score twice in the fourth inning and once more after, Southern maintained control of the game, finishing strong with additional runs in the later innings.
