Thrilling Showdown: Bulldogs Narrowly Fall to URI in Heartbreaker at Home – Bryant University Highlights

ALBANY, N.Y. – Makenna Coleman shined in a tough game, going 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and a double. Despite her performance, the Bryant University softball team lost to the University of Rhode Island, finishing the game at 10-8.

In the first inning, URI quickly took the lead, scoring four runs thanks to a single and a three-run triple. However, Bryant fought back in their half of the inning. Makenna walked, and Hannah Cohran laid down a bunt single, giving Bryant some momentum. Sam Rohwer scored first for the Bulldogs off a fielder’s choice, and soon after, a wild pitch brought home another run, cutting URI’s lead to 4-2.

URI extended its lead in the second inning with a powerful three-run home run, making the score 7-2. But Bryant wasn’t done yet. Faith Valenzuela was hit by a pitch, followed by a single from Jaelyn Lee that advanced her to third. Laniya Lewis executed a perfectly timed sac-bunt, bringing Valenzuela home and narrowing the gap to 7-3.

In the third, Riley Clendenin’s walk led to a single from McKenzie McAloon, allowing Lexi Powell to drive in a run and close the score to 7-4. The excitement peaked when Coleman hit her impressive two-run blast in the fourth inning, bringing the score to 7-6.

URI regrouped and upped its lead to 10-6 in the sixth. But Bryant kept pushing. Coleman hit a double in the sixth, later scoring off an error from URI. The Bulldogs were charged with determination, and in the seventh, Powell hit a double, allowing Lee to score and trimming URI’s lead to just two runs. Unfortunately, Bryant couldn’t clinch it, striking out in the final two at-bats, ending the game.

Looking at the statistics, Coleman was a standout, hitting two balls well. Powell had three hits and an RBI, while Lee contributed two hits and an RBI. Rohwer and Lewis also added to the scoring.

As the season unfolds, the Bulldogs prepare to meet Binghamton this weekend, a matchup that fans and players alike are eagerly anticipating. With stronger performances, Bryant might just flip the scoreboard in their favor.

Overall, this game showcased the resilience of Bryant’s team. They fought back after early setbacks and showed promising talent, hinting at what the rest of the season may hold.
