Dear members of our university community,

Recently, our institution has faced some significant challenges. Many of you might be feeling uneasy, and I want to take a moment to reassure you about something very important: our endowment.

Let me clarify: our endowment will not be subjected to name-calling or public criticism. It remains secure in various financial institutions, and I assure you that it will not face any undue scrutiny or aggressive attention from law enforcement. As your president, I stand firmly in front of it, protecting our financial assets.

There have been unsettling reports of our endowment being stopped by undercover officers. This is simply unacceptable. Having witnessed protests firsthand in the past, I’m more than willing to create a support system to keep an eye on our endowment’s well-being. This would involve regular check-ins with our brokers regarding daily activities.

In light of these unusual circumstances, the university is taking measures to address any intimidation related to our endowment. I am initiating the Endowment Awareness Task Force, which will include myself, Dean Lindsey, and several student leaders. Our aim is to clear up misconceptions about our endowment. For instance, it is not just a large lump of cash; it plays a crucial role in funding vital parts of this university, like the Gregor R. Vernon Natural Science Annex.

For those of you who don’t know, I was once an educator myself. I earned my Ph.D. in comparative literature, driven by the hope that education will play a pivotal role for each and every one of you, as well as for our endowment. The challenges and triumphs of our endowment inspire me. It’s not just about numbers—it’s about growth and stability.

Endowments, in general, are essential to the health of universities. According to a recent report by the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), as of 2022, the average endowment per student at private colleges was nearly $1 million. This financial support enables institutions to thrive, and it’s something we deeply value.

To all existing and future endowments considering joining our university, know that you are central to our mission. You are invaluable, and as we navigate these challenges, we will continue to focus on creating a supportive environment for our academic community.
