Mashiko Founder Returns to Washington: Hajime Sato, the original chef and owner of Mashiko in The Junction, is making his way back to the Pacific Northwest. After closing Sozai in Detroit, where he showcased sustainable seafood, Sato is ready for his next adventure. While he hasn’t revealed his new location yet, fans are excited. Many commented on his Instagram post, expressing hope that he’ll open a spot nearby. His recent win of a James Beard Award for Best Chef in the Great Lakes region has certainly increased interest in his future plans.

Sato initially sold Mashiko in 2019 to three employees. His commitment to sustainable seafood shone through during his tenure, which he continued at Sozai. His efforts earned him recognition, including the James Beard Award last year. Sato shared this heartfelt message on social media: “After much thought, my family and I will return to the Pacific Northwest. Leaving Sozai will be tough, but I cherish the memories made there.” We’ll keep you updated on where he lands next.
