On May 4, in New Delhi, hundreds gathered at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium for the Fit India Sundays on Cycle event. About 750 people, including educators, athletes, and fitness enthusiasts, joined this lively celebration of health.

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya led the group, cycling alongside prominent figures like Olympic silver medalist Ravi Dahiya, Commonwealth gold medalist Deepak Punia, and renowned mountaineer Narender Kumar, who recently summited Mount Annapurna.

This week’s theme was “Cycling with Teachers.” Educators from various schools and universities participated, showcasing their commitment to promoting fitness. Mandaviya emphasized, “Teachers are heroes for our students. Now, you must inspire them to be active. It’s time to shift from digital to physical activity.” His vision aligns with the Prime Minister’s mission for a healthier India.

Wrestlers Dahiya and Punia encouraged everyone to incorporate fitness into daily life. Dahiya reminded participants, “Your body is powerful. Aim to cycle 1-2 hours each day.” Punia added, “Cycling fosters fitness and aids in reducing pollution.”

According to recent statistics from the Fit India initiative, this movement has engaged 2.5 lakh participants across 5000 locations since its start in December 2024. Events are happening nationwide, demonstrating the widespread appeal of cycling as a fun, healthy activity.

The event’s collaborative efforts included partnerships with various organizations, like the Cycling Federation of India and several educational boards. These alliances help spread awareness about fitness and encourage more people to take up cycling.

As this initiative gains momentum, it promotes not just personal health but also a greener planet. Encouraging cycling is a step towards a healthier future for individuals and communities alike.
