Essential Guide to Commencement 2025: Key Insights and Tips for Your Graduation Day!

It’s celebration time for Syracuse University’s Class of 2025! Bring your family and friends for an exciting Commencement Weekend from May 8-11. The main event will take place in the JMA Wireless Dome on Sunday, May 11, starting with the procession of graduates at 9:30 a.m.

This year’s keynote speaker is Carmelo Anthony, a 10-time NBA All-Star and 2003 NCAA Champion. His journey from Syracuse to the NBA is an inspiration for many graduates. Approximately 6,900 students will receive their degrees, making this a momentous occasion.

Syracuse University Chancellor Kent Syverud will confer the degrees, while interim Provost Lois Agnew will welcome everyone. They’ll also recognize three distinguished individuals with honorary degrees:

  • Robert “Bob” Mankoff: A celebrated cartoonist from The New Yorker.
  • Ali Meders-Knight: An advocate for open lands and a member of the Mechoopda tribe.
  • Judith Greenberg Seinfeld: A life trustee of Syracuse University.

Bea González, a former vice president, will serve as the mace bearer. The ceremonies will also feature important figures like Tadodaho Sidney Hill from the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and The Rev. Dr. Brian E. Konkol, who will give the invocation.

Leading the Class of 2025 are student marshals Mark Nzasi and Yifan “Ivan” Shen. Twelve seniors earned the title of Syracuse University Scholars, with Jonathan Collard de Beaufort selected as the student speaker. This honor reflects exceptional academic achievements.

The ceremonies will include a performance by the Syracuse University Wind Ensemble. Olivia Scanzera and Enzo Cupani will sing the national anthem and alma mater, respectively, adding a heartfelt touch to the day.

To keep everyone safe, there will be security screenings, including metal detectors at all venues. Remember, bags larger than 10″ x 10″ won’t be allowed due to the university’s clear bag policy.
