Activision has come clean about using AI in its games, and Call of Duty fans aren’t shocked at all.
In today’s gaming world, the Call of Duty store updates nearly every week. Players can find a mix of colorful Operator skins, cool weapon charms, and more—some are earned, while others can be bought with real money.
With constant updates and exciting collaborations, there’s a lot of work involved. You might think that the numerous employees at Activision handle all of this, but that’s not always the case anymore.
The company has now confirmed what many players suspected: AI-generated content is part of the Call of Duty franchise.
SteamSteam now mandates notification of AI-generated content, prompting Activision to update Black Ops 6’s store page.
Activision admits to AI use in CoD
If you check the Black Ops 6 Steam page, you’ll spot a new notice. Activision now reveals its use of AI in crafting the game.
“Our team uses generative AI tools to help develop some in-game assets,” stated Activision.
Currently, it’s unclear how extensively AI is used or which specific assets this refers to. It could relate to anything from background scenery to weapon skins. However, it’s clear that AI plays a role in some capacity.

Players have long speculated about AI’s role. Recently, Black Ops 6 faced scrutiny when a holiday skin featuring a Santa with six fingers raised eyebrows online.
Moreover, even the logo for a new Zombies map in Season 2 was flagged for looking like an AI creation, according to detection tools.
Fans weren’t surprised at this revelation. One player remarked, “Yeah no kidding,” while others added remarks suggesting it was obvious.
Back in 2024, WIRED reported that Activision started integrating AI tools into its game creation as far back as 2023.
By mid-2023, it was reported that the company had begun using AI for concept art and promotional materials.
By the end of that year, Activision had supposedly rolled out its first AI-generated items in the Modern Warfare 3 store.
AI is now officially part of Black Ops 6, but just how much it’s being used remains to be seen.
