Adria Arjona is stepping into a major role in the new DC Universe. She has been cast as Maxima in James Gunn’s upcoming film “Superman: Man of Tomorrow.” Fans had previously thought she would be great for Wonder Woman, but it seems Maxima is the perfect role for her.
According to Variety, Arjona recently tested for the role. Maxima is an alien queen and has been both a foe and a love interest for Superman in the comics. Alongside her, Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler, and Grace Van Patten were also in the running. With filming set to start soon in Atlanta, the movie is slated for release on July 9, 2027.
In “Superman: Man of Tomorrow,” directed by Gunn, David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult will reprise their roles as Superman and Lex Luthor. This time, they’ll need to team up to tackle a new threat: Brainiac, portrayed by Lars Eidinger. The film also features a strong cast, including Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner.
Interestingly, Arjona’s boyfriend, Jason Momoa, is making waves in the DC Universe too. After his stint as Aquaman, he will take on the role of the anti-hero Lobo in “Supergirl,” set to hit theaters on June 26.
Arjona has become popular for her role in “Andor,” a series in the Star Wars universe. She has also starred in projects like “Hit Man” and “Father of the Bride.” Next, she’ll appear in a remake of “Thomas Crown Affair” with Michael B. Jordan.
It’s exciting to see fresh talent entering this creative space, especially with a rapidly changing landscape in superhero films. As of now, many fans are buzzing about the casting news on social media, showing excitement for both Arjona’s role and the direction of the DC Universe. DC Studios hasn’t commented on the casting yet, but it certainly adds a new dynamic to these iconic stories.
