After a Decade-Long Drought, Hamlin Clinches First Victory at Martinsville!

Denny Hamlin finally broke his 10-year winless streak at Martinsville Speedway, clinching victory in front of family and friends in Virginia. This win is especially sweet for Hamlin, a local favorite from Chesterfield, just a couple of hours away. With this victory, he tied with NASCAR legend Rusty Wallace for 11th place on the all-time wins list, marking his 55th career win.

After nearly two years without a win at Martinsville, Hamlin led an impressive 274 out of 275 laps in a race where he took charge from Chase Elliott. He credited his crew chief Chris Gayle and the team for their fresh approach, which helped change their fortunes this season. “The car was great. It did everything I needed it to do,” he said, beaming with joy after the race.

His teammate, Christopher Bell, who started on the pole, finished in second place. Bell has been having a strong season, leading all Cup Series drivers with three wins so far in 2025. He mentioned the teamwork at Joe Gibbs Racing, especially after a couple of tough weeks. “We showed a lot of pace. It was a great weekend for our team,” he noted.

Bubba Wallace rounded out the top three. Although he celebrated a strong finish that put him eighth in the Cup points standings, he felt frustrated with his restarts. Wallace, who drives for 23XI Racing alongside Hamlin and NBA star Michael Jordan, expressed a desire to improve. “I need to go back and study that,” he said, reflecting on the importance of getting those crucial starts right.

In another notable moment, Josh Berry from Wood Brothers Racing led 40 laps in an emotional race. The team was being honored for its 75th anniversary, but things took a turn when Berry’s car collided with Wallace’s during a pit stop, leading to a stall. Despite the setback, Berry managed to lead the most laps for his team at Martinsville since NASCAR Hall of Famer David Pearson did so in 1973.
