After a Decade of Speculation: Xbox Unveils Exciting New Handheld Console!

Microsoft has unveiled a new handheld console called the ROG Xbox Ally, in collaboration with Asus. This exciting announcement has been anticipated for years and comes right after the release of the recently launched Switch 2.

The ROG Xbox Ally is designed for gamers on the go. It will provide access to an extensive library of titles through Game Pass, meaning players will have hundreds of games available right away. First reports suggest that the console will hit the market by the end of 2025, but the price remains unknown.

Since the idea of a handheld Xbox has been floating around for over a decade, many are curious about how it will compete with existing devices like the Nintendo Switch and Valve’s Steam Deck. The Switch 2 is a hybrid device, allowing players to enjoy games both handheld and on a TV. Similarly, the Steam Deck offers gamers access to their Steam libraries, although not all games are compatible.

Interestingly, Microsoft has included two versions of the ROG Xbox Ally: the base model and the more powerful "X" version. Both models feature a 7-inch 1080p display. The base version has 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage, while the X version boasts 24GB of memory and double the storage. Microsoft aims to distinguish its device by utilizing its Windows operating system, which gives gamers flexibility beyond Xbox titles. Users can easily access platforms like Steam and EA Play.

However, the ROG Xbox Ally is relatively heavier, weighing 670g for the base model and 715g for the X version, compared to the Switch 2’s lighter frame at 534g. As for price comparisons, while the Switch 2 retails at £395, and the Steam Deck ranges between £349 and £569, Microsoft has yet to announce its pricing.

At a showcase event, Microsoft revealed new games arriving on Game Pass, including highly-anticipated titles like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4, Ninja Gaiden 4, and Outer Worlds 2. These games will be available on launch day, giving subscribers access to exciting new content right away. However, players need to remember that cancelling their subscription means losing access to these games.

The gaming community has reacted positively to the announcement, with many on social media expressing excitement and curiosity about the capabilities of this new handheld. The buzz around the console shows that players are eager for innovation in portable gaming, especially with recent advancements in technology.

In summary, the ROG Xbox Ally stands as a significant step for Microsoft into handheld gaming, promising a rich experience for players both at home and on the move. As we await further updates, including the price and release details, the excitement in the gaming world continues to grow.
