Early tests show that the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT competes closely with the GeForce RTX 4080, but it manages to keep cooler temperatures.
AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT: Stays Cool Under Pressure with a Score of 20,732 Points
This isn’t the first time the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT has been tested in FurMark. This time, the GPU’s name was clearly visible in the benchmark results shared by user ‘gaav87‘ on AnandTech Forums.
In a 1080p OpenGL stress test with MSAA turned off, the RX 9070 XT, a factory-overclocked version by GIGABYTE, scored a solid 20,732 points (345 FPS) after 10 minutes of testing. While FurMark isn’t the ultimate test for GPUs, it’s more reliable than Geekbench benchmarks.
This test used the newly released Linux Mesa 25.0 drivers, which bring support for the RDNA 4 architecture, adding credibility to the score. For comparison, the GeForce RTX 4080 achieved a score of 20,702 points (344 FPS) under similar test conditions with Windows drivers. While there are differences in scenarios, the RX 9070 XT is holding its own.
Past benchmarks have shown that the RX 9070 XT performs well against the RTX 4080, even scoring 7979 points to the RTX 4080’s 8030 points at 4K resolution. But what’s even more impressive is its cooling performance.
During the stress test, the RX 9070 XT barely hit 55°C, even with full usage. If you’re unfamiliar with FurMark, it’s a tough test that often drives GPUs over 80°C quickly. While the RX 50 series has decent cooling, RDNA 4 seems to surpass expectations.
The user also shared results from the Superposition benchmark at 1080p Extreme settings, where the RX 9070 XT scored 14,534 points. Unfortunately, this score is hard to compare with the RTX 4080 or other GPUs since similar tests using Linux drivers are scarce. The user mentioned a score of 9408 for the RX 6900 XT, but again, it’s not very helpful for direct comparisons.
