“Footage” stands out as Malayalam cinema’s first found-footage film. This style uses recorded videos from the characters to tell the story, similar to classics like “The Blair Witch Project.” The film marked the directorial debut of Saiju Sreedharan, a well-known film editor famous for his work on acclaimed films like “Kumbalangi Nights” and “Anjaam Pathiraa.” After its release on August 23, 2024, “Footage” received mostly positive reviews.

However, the initial promotion for the film sparked some confusion. A first look poster released in February 2024 featured a provocative image that left some viewers mistaking Gayathri Ashok for Manju Warrier. The excitement surrounding the poster only added to the film’s buzz online.
