Apple is in discussions with Bharat Forge, part of the Kalyani Group, to potentially partner for component manufacturing in India. This partnership is aimed at having Bharat Forge produce various parts for Apple.

This move is part of Apple’s broader strategy to strengthen its supplier network in India. Over the past two years, the company has been working with other local businesses, such as Tata Group and Motherson Group, to establish a more robust presence in the country.
According to sources, the talks with Bharat Forge, based in Pune, are significant. Apple is eager to collaborate with large Indian companies to enhance its manufacturing capabilities, especially as it seeks to reduce reliance on Chinese production.
Apple currently operates three major iPhone assembly plants in India. The largest is run by Foxconn in Tamil Nadu, while Tata Group manages two others in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. These facilities have created thousands of jobs and boosted local manufacturing.
Bharat Forge is a key player in the Indian manufacturing scene, employing about 5,000 people. The company operates in various sectors, including automotive, energy, and aerospace, making it a suitable partner for Apple.
In addition to Bharat Forge, Apple collaborates with other suppliers like Sunwoda for battery packs, Foxlink for cables, and Aequs for enclosures. Other international companies are also setting up operations in India to support Apple’s production needs.
Notably, Amperex Technology Ltd (ATL), another major supplier for Apple, is starting battery cell production in Manesar, Haryana. Additionally, the Motherson Group is planning to join Apple’s supply chain soon.
Apple’s efforts in India are paying off. The company has increased local value addition from 5-8% in 2020 to around 20% now. In 2024 alone, Apple manufactured iPhones worth $17.5 billion and exported goods worth $12.8 billion, marking a significant milestone for its operations in India.
