Apply Now: St. Pete’s Community Food Grant Program Open for Applications!

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The city of St. Pete has opened applications for its Community Food Grant Program. This initiative is part of the Healthy Food Action Plan, which was shaped by local community members. The main goal is to improve access to healthy food for all residents and promote health equity.

Last year, grant funding supported projects like a mobile food truck and a free grocery store. This year, the city is looking for both new and existing projects to strengthen community health and wellness. According to Kim Lehto, the Healthy St. Pete Coordinator, the focus is on initiatives that enhance the local food economy and address food security.

Many families are facing challenges, and more resources can make a significant difference. This year, the city has allocated up to $100,000 for grants, with applications open until February 12.

In recent years, food insecurity has been a growing concern in many areas. The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported that nearly 10% of American households were food insecure in 2021. Local efforts like this grant program can help bridge the gap and provide essential support.
