On February 21, the leaders of Gulf states, Egypt, and Jordan met in Riyadh. This gathering, led by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, aimed to present a united front against a controversial U.S. plan regarding Gaza.
The focus was on finding a joint approach to the challenging task of financing Gaza’s reconstruction, which the World Bank estimates will cost about $53 billion. Arab leaders are set to unveil their strategy at an emergency summit in Cairo on March 4.
During their meeting, the leaders reviewed a plan proposed by Egypt. This plan outlines a three-phase approach to address the crisis in Gaza over three to five years. Initially, it suggests creating safe zones for those displaced and clearing debris. The second phase aims at reconstruction, involving an international conference to rally support from global donors. Finally, the third phase seeks to restart the political negotiations necessary for a two-state solution.
