Ariana Grande has received her first Oscar nomination, and she is understandably emotional about it. She can’t stop crying with joy!
On Thursday, she shared her excitement on Instagram just hours after being nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Glinda in “Wicked.”
Grande expressed her gratitude in her post, saying, “Picking my head up in between sobs to say thank you so much to @theacademy for this unfathomable recognition. I cannot stop crying, to no one’s surprise.”
In her post, she included sweet memories, showing photos of herself as a young girl dressed as Dorothy from “The Wizard of Oz,” along with a video of her singing a song from the Broadway version of “Wicked.”
Reflecting on her journey, she said, “I’m humbled and deeply honored to be in such brilliant company and sharing this with tiny Ari who sat and studied Judy Garland singing ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow.’ I’m so proud of you, tiny.”
The Oscar nominations were announced by Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott. “Emilia Pérez” received the most nominations with 13, while both “Wicked” and “The Brutalist” followed with 10 each.
It wasn’t just Grande who was recognized; Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba in “Wicked,” also earned a nomination for Best Lead Actress.
Grande took a moment to celebrate Erivo, saying, “Your brilliance is never-ending and you deserve every flower (tulip) in every garden. I love you unconditionally, always.”
Besides the acting nominations, “Wicked” also got a nod for Best Picture, among other categories. Earlier this month, the film won a Golden Globe for cinematic and box office achievement.
Fans can look forward to the second part of the adaptation, titled “Wicked: For Good,” which will hit theaters in November.
