Arshdeep Singh’s Key Challenge: Overcoming Lack of Match Practice, Says Bharat Arun

Former India fast bowling coach Bharat Arun has raised concerns about Arshdeep Singh’s match readiness as the Asia Cup approaches. The talented left-arm bowler is just one wicket away from reaching 100 T20I wickets, yet he hasn’t played for the national team since February 2025.

After shining against England prior to the Champions Trophy 2025, Arshdeep participated in a full season of the Indian Premier League. However, he didn’t get a chance to represent India during the recent Test series in England, where the team contested five matches. Upon returning home, he played only one match in the Duleep Trophy before heading to the UAE for the Asia Cup.

Despite practicing diligently in the nets during the England series, Arun emphasized the importance of actual match experience. “Arshdeep is clearly talented, but match practice is crucial. He may have bowled a lot in the nets, but real rhythm comes from playing matches,” Arun told PTI.

He outlined that getting back into game rhythm can happen quickly for some players, but it might take a few matches for others. “It’s a big challenge for him to regain his match rhythm,” Arun added, reflecting on his valuable experience coaching the Indian bowling team from 2014 to 2021.

Arshdeep currently boasts 99 T20I wickets across 63 matches. If he claims a wicket in the Asia Cup 2025, he will become the first Indian bowler to hit the milestone of 100 T20I wickets.

In the group stages, India will face off against the UAE, Oman, and Pakistan. Given their strong lineup, they are considered favorites to take home the trophy.

This year’s Asia Cup follows a successful 2022 tournament for India, where they demonstrated their strength under pressure. Fans will be eager to see how Arshdeep performs and if he can quickly find his form on the big stage.
