Astros Updates: Jacob Melton Hits 10-Day Injured List – What It Means for the Team

Unfortunately, he rolled his ankle while trying to position himself for a play. “When I realized I wasn’t going to have a play on it, I tried to back off and just kind of rolled it," he explained to the media, expressing his determination to adapt to the situation.

Despite struggling at the plate with a .241 batting average in his first 31 plate appearances, Melton showed good defensive skills and helped stabilize a struggling outfield. Now, he joins fellow outfielders Yordan Alvarez, Chas McCormick, Zach Dezenzo, Taylor Trammell, and Pedro Leon on the injured list, which complicates matters for the team.

Adding to the challenges, Isaac Paredes is dealing with a mild hamstring strain, leaving the Astros without their starting third baseman. Guillorme can fill in all over the infield, while Hummel is expected to cover outfield positions. The Astros are actively managing their roster as they prepare for possible further injuries.

In a strategic move, Spencer Arrighetti has been moved from the 15-day IL to the 60-day IL to clear a roster spot. He has been out with a fractured thumb but is beginning to recover. This adjustment allows the team to keep options open as they navigate these injuries.
