The Kansas City Chiefs are diving into the entertainment world with their new production company, Foolish Club Studios, just in time for Super Bowl LIX. This move marks an exciting expansion for the team beyond football.
Foolish Club Studios aims to create both scripted and unscripted content for various platforms, whether it’s short clips or feature-length films. The Chiefs have already dipped their toes into this area with projects like the Hallmark Channel film Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story and the claymation short A Kingdom Christmas Story: Hail Merry.
While the Chiefs have an existing production team focused on football called 65 Toss Power Trap Productions, Foolish Club Studios will concentrate more on entertainment stories that reflect a wider range of themes and ideas.
The name “Foolish Club” pays homage to Lamar Hunt, the founder of the team and the American Football League. He and the original owners took a bold step by competing against the NFL at the time, which was considered a “foolish” endeavor.
Clark Hunt, the team’s chairman and CEO, expressed that this studio represents a tribute to his father. He emphasized how Lamar pushed for creativity and innovation, qualities the new studio will embody. “We want to tell stories that resonate with our fans and make the game more accessible,” he said.
Mark Donovan, the team president, also shared his excitement. He noted that storytelling has always been close to Lamar’s heart. “We believe this studio will connect with audiences worldwide, showcasing themes of hard work, perseverance, and the passion of sports fans.”
The NFL is no stranger to the entertainment scene either. They have teamed up with David Ellison’s Skydance to create Skydance Sports, a venture focused on sports-themed entertainment.
