Beloved Actor Tom Troupe, Star of ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Cagney & Lacey,’ Passes Away at 97: A Tribute to His Iconic Career

Tom Troupe, a talented stage and screen actor, has passed away at the age of 97. His family shared that he died of natural causes at his Beverly Hills home, just five days after his birthday.

Born on July 15, 1928, in Kansas City, Missouri, Troupe took his first steps into acting through local theater. In 1948, he moved to New York, receiving a scholarship from the renowned actress and teacher Uta Hagen. He honed his craft at the Herbert Berghof Studio, laying the groundwork for his future in performing arts.

His journey took a brave turn when he served in the Korean War, earning a Bronze Star for his service. After returning to New York, he made his Broadway debut in 1957, portraying Peter van Daan in The Diary of Anne Frank, sharing the stage with Joseph Schildkraut.

In the late 1950s, Troupe moved to Los Angeles, where he became a familiar face in both films and television. His career spanned decades, featuring notable roles in shows like Star Trek, Cagney & Lacey, and Mission: Impossible. He also appeared in films such as My Own Private Idaho and Kelly’s Heroes. Overall, he participated in numerous projects from the 1960s through the ’90s.

Troupe was not only a film and television star but also shone on stage, sharing the spotlight with his wife, Carole Cook, in productions like The Lion in Winter and The Gin Game. He also reached audiences through national tours and plays he co-wrote, like The Diary of a Madman.

Troupe’s legacy continues through his family: his son Christopher, daughter-in-law Becky, granddaughter Ashley, and several nieces and nephews. Carole Cook, his beloved wife, passed away in 2023, leaving behind a rich family history marked by creativity and talent.

Interestingly, the entertainment industry has seen a resurgence in appreciation for classic films and TV shows, inspiring younger generations to rediscover works from previous eras. This trend highlights the lasting impact of actors like Troupe, reflecting their significant contributions to the arts.

For those wishing to honor Tom Troupe’s memory, donations can be made to the Entertainment Community Fund or the Pasadena Humane Society.
