Bharat Khera has been named Secretary of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in India. This appointment is significant as it comes during a crucial time for the MSME sector, which plays a vital role in India’s economy. Khera, an IAS officer from Himachal Pradesh, has more than 30 years of experience in government and policy-making.

Khera also has a strong background in Himachal Pradesh’s administration, having held roles such as Home Secretary and Principal Secretary in multiple departments. This diverse experience equips him well for his new position. He has a degree in Electronics Engineering from BITS Pilani, a Master of Public Administration, and advanced management training from the Indian School of Business.
Experts believe that effective leadership in the MSME sector could potentially lead to a 30% increase in small business growth over the next five years, suggesting that Khera’s role could be transformative. The MSME sector was responsible for generating over 110 million jobs as of 2021, according to the Ministry of MSME, making it a crucial player in reducing unemployment and fostering innovation.
