Bharat NCAP Launches New ADAS Assessments for Cars: What You Need to Know!

One exciting development is the introduction of Bharat NCAP 2.0, which will assess Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). This upgrade aims to make vehicle safety more aligned with global standards while considering Indian road conditions. Ujjwala Karle, Deputy Director and Head of Technology Group at ARAI, announced this new approach at the recent ADAS Show in Bengaluru.

ARAI leads the Bharat NCAP initiative, and the upcoming version will focus on how well ADAS features are tailored to India’s unique driving environment. Current vehicles in the Indian market already utilize Level 2 ADAS technology, including features like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance.

So far, the tested vehicles like the Tata Curvv, Curvy EV, and Mahindra XEV 9e have received top ratings of 5 stars for safety. This new program will ensure that these advanced technologies are effective in Indian conditions.

To facilitate this, ARAI is developing a dedicated ADAS testing facility on an 18-acre site in Pune. Although there’s no confirmed timeline, Bharat NCAP 2.0 is expected to launch by 2027. This addition promises to significantly boost safety in the passenger vehicle sector and encourage manufacturers to implement more ADAS technologies in their cars.

The shift toward better safety standards with ADAS can lead to safer roads for everyone. It’s an exciting time for car buyers and car manufacturers in India!
