Big Changes: Nintendo Switch Online Retro Games Set to Disappear in the US and Europe – What You Need to Know!

Nintendo is making a surprising move by removing a game from its Switch Online retro library in the US and Europe.

Since launching in 2018, Switch Online has added a bunch of classic games from the NES, SNES, and more. So far, over 300 titles have joined the lineup.

This week, we learned that Super Formation Soccer (known as Super Soccer in the West) will be taken off the Super Famicom (SNES) library on March 28.

After this announcement from the Japanese eShop, Nintendo confirmed the same for the US and European eShops.

This is the first sign that games might not stick around forever on Switch Online. While it’s likely that major Nintendo franchises will stay, some third-party titles might disappear.

Hideki Kamiya, a former co-founder of PlatinumGames, voiced his disappointment on X. He called for the return of the Virtual Console, a platform where players could buy games individually on the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS.

“Hey hey hey, I guess subscriptions are no good after all,” Kamiya tweeted. “Seriously, bring back the Virtual Console… don’t be so mean.”

Interestingly, many retro games were also removed from the Virtual Console in the past. Titles like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Yoshi’s Cookie, and Street Fighter II are some examples.
