Billy Goat Tavern Honors Fallen Officer Krystal Rivera with Heartfelt Meal for Chicago Police

The Billy Goat Tavern and Grill at Navy Pier recently spread some joy to Chicago’s police officers. Chefs at this iconic restaurant prepared 160 cheeseburgers and packed up cases of soda for officers at the Grand Crossing and Gresham district police stations. This thoughtful gesture was organized by retired officer Walter Metcalf, who worked alongside Cmdr. Melvin Branch to deliver the food.

This act of kindness comes in the wake of a tragic event involving Officer Krystal Rivera. On June 5th, Rivera, who was part of a tactical team, was accidentally shot by a fellow officer during a chase in the Chatham neighborhood. The incident occurred when they attempted to stop a suspect, who then fled into an apartment building. When Rivera and her partner followed, they faced a second person armed with a rifle. Rivera was shot in the back and later died at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
