In a recent interview with The Guardian, Suzy Raia, head of global consumer products at BBC Studios, expressed her excitement. She hopes Bluey will become a defining brand for today’s families. The numbers support this ambition: Bluey has helped the BBC generate a whopping £2.16 billion (about $2.9 billion) in commercial revenue last year. Global retail sales related to the brand reached $3.6 billion, a large part of which can be attributed to Bluey’s popularity.
Originally co-produced by Ludo Studio for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and the BBC, Bluey has come a long way from its roots. In 2024, it was the most-streamed show in the U.S., a position it maintained into 2025. The show’s blend of humor and emotional depth has captivated both children and parents, a rare feat for kids’ programming.
The Bluey product range is extensive and eclectic. You can find bumper cars, board games, diapers, and even Bluey-themed baked beans! A traveling theater show is already on the road, and earlier this year, Bluey’s World, an immersive experience in Queensland, opened its doors. Excitingly, a theatrical feature is planned for 2027, and Bluey will make history as the first non-Disney children’s property to be featured in Disney theme parks.
The show is also making waves on social media. Its official YouTube and TikTok accounts have gained millions of followers and billions of views. Within just seven months of launching its TikTok, Bluey amassed over a million followers, attracting young adults along with its core kids’ audience.
However, BBC Studios is being careful not to overextend the brand. Raia mentioned that the team often declines more licensing offers than they accept, as they prioritize the quality and integrity of Bluey.
With a focus on appealing to teens and parents, Bluey is evolving from a simple preschool favorite to a global phenomenon. It’s clear that as the audience grows, so too does Bluey’s charm, creating a lasting impact on families everywhere.
