Bob on Business: Tandy Leather’s Strategic Move from Fort Worth Headquarters to New Location in Benbrook

Tandy Leather Factory Inc., a longstanding business in Fort Worth, is relocating just outside the city limits. Founded in 1919, Tandy Leather has a rich history tied to Charles Tandy’s influential Tandy Corp. The company recently signed a 10-year lease for its new headquarters at Chisholm 20 Commerce Park in Benbrook, only a few miles away from its current location.

This new space spans 134,000 square feet and will officially start renting in July. There’s a rent suspension until September 2025, with payments beginning at around $111,000 per month. Tandy Leather also announced the sale of its current headquarters at 1900 SE Loop 820 to Colonna Brothers Inc., a food supplier from New Jersey. They are actively looking for a new site for their flagship Fort Worth store, which will stay open at its current location for now.

Jeff Gramm, Tandy Leather’s chairman, expressed excitement about the move. He mentioned that the new space fits the company’s needs better and that selling the old facilities helps benefit their stakeholders.

In a recent leadership change, Tandy Leather appointed Johan Hedberg as the new CEO, succeeding Janet Carr. Hedberg brings over 30 years of experience in wholesale and retail, having previously served as chief sales officer at Fiskars Group.

Tandy Leather specializes in a wide range of leather products, with 99 stores across North America. Initially, they started as the Hinckley-Tandy Leather Company, focusing on shoe components. During World War II, they began supplying specialty leathers for military leatherwork programs, driven by a vision from Charles Tandy. The company grew rapidly and became well-known for its craft and leather products.

In other local news, Worth Commercial Real Estate recently bought the Magnolia Centre, a 31,000-square-foot office building in Fort Worth. This space will house their team and other office tenants starting in 2025. The company has been active in real estate since its founding in 2015, completing over $80 million in commercial transactions.

Worth Commercial also supports local nonprofits, including Act for Justice, DASH Network, and Young Life, showing their commitment to the community.

Several exciting retail openings are on the horizon too. In Southlake Town Square, new stores such as Brilliant Earth and FP Movement will be joining the lineup in 2025, along with the restaurant Flower Child. North East Mall will welcome the international retailer Primark and streetwear brand Denim House next year.

If you need emergency veterinary care, the Veterinary Emergency Group has opened a new location in Flower Mound. This new hospital is the sixth VEG facility in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
