The University of Virginia Center for Diabetes Technology has started a multi-year partnership with Tandem Diabetes Care. Their goal? To enhance insulin delivery systems for managing diabetes. This collaboration focuses on combining UVA’s innovative diabetes care technology with Tandem’s expertise in insulin devices and data management.

For over ten years, UVA has been working on advanced automated insulin delivery (AID) systems, which help people worldwide manage their diabetes better. This new partnership aims to take those efforts even further by developing fully automated insulin delivery that could change how patients receive care.

Dr. Marc Breton from UVA expressed excitement for what lies ahead. He said, “This is an exciting new beginning. Together, we will leverage our strengths to improve the lives of diabetes patients everywhere.”

Tandem Diabetes Care specializes in insulin delivery tech. They are working on systems that adjust insulin based on real-time glucose readings. With an expert team from both centers, they aim to find innovative ways to support those living with diabetes.

Research Funding

John Sheridan, President and CEO of Tandem, reflected on their successful past work with UVA. He stated, “Our collaboration has already helped create life-changing products for diabetes patients. I believe this partnership will lead to new innovations that can improve lives even more.”

Throughout their partnership, Tandem will provide research funding and resources to UVA. This funding will support hands-on research and clinical studies aimed at progressing insulin delivery systems and improving patient outcomes.

Overall, this collaboration marks a significant step toward better treatments for diabetes patients globally. By combining their knowledge and skills, UVA and Tandem are set to create solutions that can greatly enhance life for those managing this condition.
