Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s children are making it clear they want to distance themselves from their father. Recently, their eldest, Maddox, requested to drop “Pitt” from his last name, aiming to be known as Maddox Chivan Jolie. This change is pending approval.
A source shared with Us Weekly that Pitt is feeling hurt by this situation. He wishes things were different and is particularly pained that his children want to disconnect from his name. It’s been tough for him, but he hopes for a chance at reconciliation. However, he knows it’s up to them; he can’t force a relationship.
Jolie and Pitt have six children, and at least four have distanced themselves from him. Maddox’s name change comes after Zahara chose not to include “Pitt” during her graduation at Spelman College. Pitt was not there for this important moment in her life and didn’t reach out in advance.
In addition, Vivienne was credited simply as “Vivienne Jolie” in a Broadway play’s program, and on her 18th birthday, Shiloh changed her name to Shiloh Jolie.
Pitt fears permanent disconnection from his kids. He wants to mend their relationship but worries that time is slipping away. In interviews, he has openly acknowledged that he could have been a better father. He stated that the pressures of fame and work sometimes pulled him away from being present for his children.
Experts highlight that parental involvement is crucial for children’s emotional development. A study by the American Psychological Association found that children benefit significantly from supportive parenting, especially during turbulent family transitions. This reinforces the importance of Pitt being actively engaged in his children’s lives during this challenging time.
In reflecting on family dynamics, Pitt noted that people often regret not prioritizing relationships over achievements. He wants to be there for his kids, listening to them and understanding their needs. As he continues to navigate these difficulties, he hopes to find ways to reconnect with his family.
