This weekend saw some notable action at the global box office, especially with Marvel and Disney’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Although it experienced a 54% drop from its opening weekend, the film still managed to earn $39.6 million internationally, bringing its total to $170.3 million offshore and $368.7 million worldwide. Interestingly, domestic earnings now make up 54% of the total, a shift from the usual trend where international markets lead.
One country making headlines is South Korea. Not only is it showing interest in local films, but it’s also captivated by the Brad Pitt-led F1. This racing drama from Apple Original Films and Warner Bros. has been performing exceptionally well, increasing its box office by 36% in its sixth weekend, pulling in $17.2 million from 78 markets. Its worldwide total has now reached $545.6 million, making it Brad Pitt’s highest-grossing film to date.
In terms of new releases, Paramount’s comedy The Naked Gun debuted to $11.5 million from 46 markets, outperforming both Game Night and The Heat. It has yet to open in key markets like France and Australia.
Another standout is Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s The Bad Guys 2, which expanded to 58 markets and earned $16.3 million in its second weekend, reaching a global total of $44.5 million. Major markets like Brazil and China are still on the horizon for this film.
Moreover, Jurassic World Rebirth continued to pull in audiences, adding $16.2 million in its fifth weekend, totalling $766 million globally. Meanwhile, Warner/DC’s Superman gathered $11.2 million from 78 markets, bringing its global earnings to $551.2 million.
Recent data shows that global box office revenue is on the rise, rebounding to about 75% of pre-pandemic levels. Industry experts, including analysts from Box Office Mojo, highlight the resilience of audiences returning to cinemas as a key factor in this rebound.
As we look at these trends, it’s clear that the film industry is adapting post-pandemic, with franchises and familiar faces driving audiences back to theaters. The landscape is changing, but with so much to offer, it seems cinephiles have much to look forward to.
