In a significant twist, the U.S. released Arthur Petrov, a dual German-Russian citizen. Petrov had been arrested in Cyprus in 2023 for allegedly exporting microelectronics to Russian military manufacturers, raising concerns about espionage and international security.
The swap occurred in Abu Dhabi early Thursday morning. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Karelina was now on her way back to the United States, emphasizing that she had been wrongfully detained.
