Breaking Barriers: UWF Welcomes Over 15,000 Students – Exciting Growth at the University of West Florida

The University of West Florida (UWF) has hit a significant milestone, enrolling over 15,000 students for the first time in its 58-year history. For the Fall 2025 semester, enrollment stands at 15,601, a 5% rise from last year and surpassing the university’s target of 15,200 by 3%.

Interim President Manny Diaz Jr. noted, “This achievement shows the trust families have in a UWF education. It highlights our strong programs and the dedication of our faculty and staff.” The growing numbers are a testament to UWF’s commitment to students and the local community.

This growth spans all levels. Undergraduate enrollment increased by 4%, graduate students by 8%, and non-degree seekers by 7%. Notably, there’s been a 14% rise in transfer students and a 10% increase in freshmen returning to college. Additionally, returning graduate students rose by 11%.

Many new transfer students come from local institutions like Pensacola State College and Gulf Coast State College. UWF’s efforts to create smooth transfer pathways and strong partnerships with these schools are clearly paying off.

UWF’s focus on strategic planning has also helped boost first-time college enrollment. They are using data-driven approaches to ensure new freshmen are equipped to succeed.

Overall, this increase in enrollment reflects UWF’s commitment to improving retention and graduation rates. A solid foundation for student success is evident in these numbers.

According to a recent survey by the National Student Clearinghouse, enrollment in higher education institutions across the U.S. dropped by 5% overall since the pandemic.
