Nine-time NBA All-Star Damian Lillard is making a comeback with the Portland Trail Blazers. He has signed a three-year contract worth $42 million, which is believed to include a player option for the 2027-28 season and a no-trade clause.

Recently, Lillard, the franchise’s star player, held multiple meetings with general manager Joe Cronin and head coach Chauncey Billups. They expressed a mutual desire to work together and solidify their future.

Before this deal, the Milwaukee Bucks waived Lillard, stretching his remaining $113 million contract to make space for center Myles Turner.

Lillard is set to earn $70 million during the 2025-26 season from both his Portland and Milwaukee contracts, totaling $141 million over the next two years before he has the option to opt-out in 2027. He is currently finalizing terms with the Blazers, alongside his agent Aaron Goodwin.

In April, Lillard sustained a torn left Achilles during the playoffs against the Indiana Pacers, leading to surgery in May. His family’s presence in Portland was a big factor in his decision to return. He had various offers from NBA teams but chose to reconnect with the Blazers.

In a previous trade, the Blazers sent Lillard to the Bucks in exchange for Jrue Holiday and other assets. Afterward, Holiday was traded to the Boston Celtics, enabling the Blazers to acquire more talented players like Robert Williams III and Malcolm Brogdon, along with future draft picks.

Lillard’s history with Portland is impressive. He spent 11 seasons there, made seven All-Star teams, and led the team to the playoffs eight times. He holds franchise records for points, three-pointers, and ranks second in assists. His electrifying performances include seven games with 55 points or more—an unmatched feat in Blazers history.
