BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – A man has been arrested after Bluefield Police responded to a physical assault involving two women at Bluefield State University dorms.
Twenty-one-year-old Malachi Ruffin was taken into custody on February 27. Campus security noticed an altercation between Ruffin and two female roommates through surveillance cameras.
According to the police report, there was a history between Ruffin and one of the roommates. The incident began when Ruffin’s current girlfriend harassed the roommates by phone.
When Ruffin knocked on their door, he allegedly hit one of the women with a closed fist. He then entered the room and attacked the second woman. Video evidence captured their struggle as the women tried to defend themselves against Ruffin’s aggression.
Ruffin reportedly left but later returned to fetch his shoes. When one of the roommates opened the door, he allegedly struck her again, pulling her hair and hitting her head against the wall. The entire encounter was recorded on video, showing the violent nature of the incident.
Ruffin faces charges of domestic battery and battery for the alleged assaults. He has pleaded not guilty to both charges in magistrate court and has posted a $5,000 bond.
