Tens of Thousands of Russian Soldiers Dying in Ukraine
Over 95,000 soldiers fighting for Russia have died in the ongoing war in Ukraine, according to a BBC analysis. This number does not include those from the self-proclaimed Donbas republics, which could add another 21,000 to 23,500 deaths.

The data comes from various sources, including official reports, news outlets, and social media. However, many believe that the actual number of deaths is even higher than reported.
Since the large-scale invasion in 2022, many civilian men were drafted into the military. Unfortunately, many were poorly trained and equipped, leading to tremendous casualties. Many soldiers remain unaccounted for, with families often waiting months or even years for answers.
In eastern Ukraine, where many people have connections to Russia, the losses are not widely felt. This separation makes it difficult for ordinary Russians to stay informed about the casualties happening in the war.
Estimates suggest that Russia’s true military losses could be much higher than what is publicly known. The number may range from 146,000 to 211,000 deaths.
