EAGAN, Minn. — The Minnesota Vikings have officially placed safety Joshua Metellus and linebacker Jonathan Greenard on Injured Reserve.
Head Coach Kevin O’Connell mentioned that Greenard’s season is over due to a shoulder injury he sustained in Week 10 against Baltimore. This is disappointing for the team, as Greenard has shown strong performance with 38 tackles and 3 sacks this season. He had a standout game in Week 15 at Dallas, where his efforts helped limit the Cowboys’ offense.
Metellus has been dealing with a shoulder injury since Week 13. He finished the season with 86 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 6 passes defended. According to O’Connell, a thorough evaluation showed that it was time for Metellus to get the shoulder fixed to prevent further damage. O’Connell expressed deep respect for Metellus’s dedication in playing through the pain.
Both players will stay with the team during rehab and continue to support their teammates. O’Connell believes their experience can motivate the team to aim for strong performances as they end the season.
Additionally, rookie tight end Gavin Bartholomew, currently on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list, is expected to return to practice this week.
