In a recent move, the New York Rangers traded Ryan Lindgren and Jimmy Vesey to the Colorado Avalanche. In exchange, they received Juuso Parssinen, Calvin de Haan, and conditional second- and fourth-round picks for the 2025 NHL Draft.
The Rangers are holding onto half of Lindgren’s contract, which is for one year at $4.5 million. The second-round pick will be the better of their own or that of the Carolina Hurricanes, while the fourth-round pick will be the better of the Avalanche or the Vancouver Canucks.
Lindgren, a 26-year-old defenseman, is set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season. He joined the Rangers in 2018 when they traded Rick Nash to the Boston Bruins. This season, he has 19 points, including 2 goals and 17 assists, in 54 games.
Vesey, who is 31, recently finished his second term with the Rangers after signing a one-year deal last year. He has managed six points this season, with four goals and two assists, over 33 games.
Currently, the Rangers are trying to improve their standings. They are set to face the Nashville Predators soon and are looking for a way to secure a wild card spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. They are four points behind the Detroit Red Wings and the Columbus Blue Jackets.
This trade is just one part of the Rangers’ busy season. They recently experienced a slump, going 4-15-0 from November to December. In response, they made several changes, including acquiring J.T. Miller from the Vancouver Canucks and trading their captain, Jacob Trouba, to the Anaheim Ducks.
Adam Fox, who has been Lindgren’s defensive partner, is currently out with an upper-body injury.
On the flip side, Colorado welcomed de Haan, a seasoned defenseman aged 33. He boasts 148 points over 676 games in his career. Parssinen, the 24-year-old forward, has shown promise with 11 points this season and recently played his 100th NHL game.
This trade illustrates the dynamic nature of the NHL as teams like the Rangers and Avalanche work to strengthen their rosters. As the season progresses, both teams will be looking to secure their positions and aim for playoff success.
