Patriots fans owe a special thanks to Susan Hurley for bringing Rob Gronkowski back to New England.
Hurley, a former cheerleader and community advocate who recently passed away from ovarian cancer, was the driving force behind Gronkowski’s one-day contract with the team. Her last wish was for him to retire as a Patriot.
Brian Hoyer, a former quarterback for New England, expressed his admiration for Gronkowski. He noted that Hurley played a key role in Gronk’s return, helping with his charitable work throughout New England. “It was great to see him fulfill her last request,” Hoyer said. “Gronk not only won the Super Bowl but left a lasting legacy.”
Gronkowski’s connection to the community, especially through initiatives like Gronk Playground, shows how much he cares. Hoyer recalled seeing Gronk as a rookie, emphasizing his unique skill set: “He wasn’t just an exceptional pass-catcher; he blocked like an offensive lineman, all while laughing.”
Interestingly, Tom Brady, another Patriots legend, also attended Gronk’s contract signing. Hoyer remembered their close team bond, saying New England had the best locker room he ever experienced. “In bad locker rooms, you see cliques form,” he explained. “But with the Patriots, it was all about unity.”
Looking at Gronkowski’s journey, he was known for bringing joy to a sometimes tough environment under coach Bill Belichick. He made the game fun for everyone around him. Hoyer noted that “what makes a locker room great is the absence of division.”
