RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco has taken a surprising step by seizing over half a million ballots from a recent special election. He claims he’s looking into discrepancies in the ballot count, which has raised eyebrows across California.
Bianco, running as a Republican for governor, held a press conference to explain his actions. He said he received complaints from a local citizens group about the November 2025 election results, where voters approved new congressional district lines, allegedly benefiting Democrats.
The sheriff’s move has drawn criticism from county election officials, who dispute his claims and are alarmed by this unprecedented ballot seizure. California Attorney General Rob Bonta, a Democrat, called the action “unacceptable” and warned it could erode trust in the electoral process.
