Franciscan Health Welcomes the New Year by Celebrating New Arrivals
On New Year’s Day, Franciscan Health’s Family Birth Centers in Northwest Indiana and Chicago’s South Suburbs had the joy of welcoming the first babies of 2026.
At 1:29 a.m., Jacob Robert Patrick Kelly Jr. was born to Mattie Tengdin and Jacob Kelley in Crown Point. He weighed 6 pounds 14 ounces and measured 19.7 inches. Later, at 9:02 a.m., Sofia Aylani made her entrance at the Franciscan Health Olympia Fields, born to Maria Navarro and Danis Avila of South Chicago Heights, weighing 7 pounds 10 ounces and 20 inches long.
Each family received a special gift basket. These baskets include items to support parents during their first few weeks at home with their newborns. It’s a nice gesture that reflects the community’s support for new families.
New parents often share their experiences on social media. Many express joy and gratitude for the facilities and care they received during this important time. According to a recent survey, 85% of new parents feel well-prepared for bringing their babies home, thanks in part to support offered by hospitals like Franciscan Health.
