Unlocking Innovation: Bharat Forge Secures ₹1,661.9 Cr MoD Contract for ‘Made in India’ CQB Carbines

Bharat Forge Limited (BFL) has landed a major contract with the Indian Ministry of Defence valued at ₹1,661.9 crores. This deal focuses on delivering 255,128 CQB (Close Quarter Battle) carbines, which are lightweight firearms ideal for urban warfare and quick operations.

The contract was signed on December 30, 2025, and BFL aims to complete the order within the next five years. These carbines, designed for ease of handling and rapid response in tight spaces, will enhance the capabilities of the Indian Army.

A CQB carbine measures up to the challenge of combat scenarios often taking place under 100 meters. The 5.56 x 45 mm round used in these weapons offers both precision and efficiency. This firearm showcases a significant achievement in India’s self-reliance in defense manufacturing, as it was developed by Bharat Forge in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

Bharat Forge’s initiative aligns perfectly with the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign, which promotes self-sufficiency in various sectors, including defense. With this contract, BFL, alongside its subsidiary Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL), is focused on equipping the Indian armed forces with homegrown technology.

Bharat Forge, based in Pune, is not just a key player in defense. It also serves diverse industries such as automotive, aerospace, and energy. With operations spanning five countries, it leverages its extensive metallurgical expertise to deliver high-quality products globally.

This contract comes at a time when the Indian government is heavily investing in domestic defense production. According to a recent report, India aims to achieve a defense export target of $5 billion by 2025, further highlighting the importance of local manufacturing.

As user conversations on platforms like Twitter indicate, many citizens are proud of the advancements in India’s defense technology. They see this contract as a step towards modernizing the armed forces and reducing dependence on foreign imports.
