Chennai is buzzing with excitement as Veena maestro Jayanthi Kumaresh is set to receive the prestigious ‘Sangita Kalanidhi’ award from The Music Academy. This honor recognizes her outstanding contributions to music.
In addition to Kumaresh, the academies will present the ‘Sangita Kala Acharya’ award to Carnatic vocalist Sugandha Kalamegham and mridangam expert Trichur C. Narendran. These awards celebrate the rich tradition of Carnatic music and highlight the talents within this vibrant community.
Notable artists like Injikkudi M. Subramaniam, a renowned Nagaswaram player, and the classical violinist T.K.V. Ramanujacharyulu will receive the TTK Awards. B. Balasubramaniyan, an adjunct professor at Wesleyan University in the U.S., will also be recognized with the Musicologist award.
Jayanthi Kumaresh will grace the 100th Annual Conference and Concerts of The Music Academy, taking place from December 15, 2026, to January 1, 2027. She will accept her award on January 1, 2027, during the grand ‘Sadas’ event alongside other awardees.
The awards don’t stop there. The ‘Nritya Kalanidhi’ award goes to Narendra G., a dedicated post-graduate from the Kalakshetra Foundation. Meanwhile, A. Janardhanan will be honored with the ‘Nritya Kala Acharya’ award, having trained in Bharatanatyam under the legendary Rukmini Devi Arundale.
S. Rajeswari, a talented musician and teacher, along with T.K. Padmanabhan, an accomplished violinist and vocalist who has overcome visual impairment, will receive the Dance Musician awards. Padmanabhan’s resilience is inspiring; he has worked tirelessly, accompanying numerous artists on All India Radio.
All winners of the dance awards will be celebrated at the Music Academy’s 20th annual dance festival, starting on January 3, 2027.
This awards ceremony not only honors individual talent but also emphasizes the importance of preserving and promoting India’s classical music heritage amidst the modern landscape.
