Founded in the South Valley of Albuquerque, Bueno Foods got its start in 1951. President Gene Baca shares that it all began with his grandmother’s recipes at the Ace Food Store. Customers would often ask to buy homemade enchiladas and tortillas, sparking the idea for a larger operation.
Over the years, Bueno Foods has grown significantly. The company now operates a factory in Barelas that produces nearly half a million tortillas every day, alongside an array of New Mexican favorites. Baca emphasizes their commitment to the local culture, saying, “For us, food is more than just nutrients; it’s a part of our culture.” The company takes pride in offering a distinct taste that sets New Mexican food apart from other styles.
According to recent statistics, Bueno Foods employs around 330 New Mexicans, contributing to the local economy and preserving cultural heritage. Their products are not only popular in New Mexico but are also recognized in neighboring states and across the country.
This year, a special anniversary event is planned for employees to celebrate the company’s rich history and dedication to its roots. Baca expresses gratitude to both staff and customers, acknowledging their role in keeping Bueno Foods thriving for 75 years.
