Chargers Cruise to Victory Over Virginia State in Thrilling PBC Play-In Showdown

HUNTSVILLE, ALA. | The UAH men’s lacrosse team made a strong comeback at Charger Park on Tuesday, winning decisively against Virginia State with a score of 23-5 in a Peach Belt Conference game.

Before the match, Aydan Weiszhar and Will Bond were honored by the conference, earning spots on the Peach Belt Conference Second Team All-Conference.

Although Virginia State scored first, UAH quickly took charge. They closed the first quarter with a commanding 7-1 lead and kept the momentum going into the second, leading 13-3 by halftime. Throughout the second half, UAH continued their dominance, outscoring Virginia State 5-2 in the third quarter and shutting them out in the fourth.

A total of 15 players contributed to the scoring. Nate Burt, Carson Kingsbury, and Zach Hulbert each netted three goals, while Makai Hillmon and Harrison Skinner added two goals. Other contributors included Griffin Utz, Brock Deist, and several others who pitched in with goals.

The stats were impressive: UAH outshot Virginia State 69-17, including a remarkable 43-10 in shots on goal. They also dominated ground balls 57-31 and won 27 out of 29 faceoffs, showcasing their control of the game. UAH effectively cleared the ball, achieving 21 successful clearances out of 22 attempts.

In goal, UAH rotated four goalkeepers, totaling five saves. Notably, Tyler Trefzger did not allow a goal during his time in net.

Looking ahead, UAH aims to carry this momentum into the semifinals of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. They will face top-seeded Montevallo on Friday, April 24, at 4 p.m. in Montevallo, Alabama.

This win highlights not just UAH’s skill but also showcases a growing trend in college lacrosse. According to the NCAA, participation in lacrosse has increased by 21% over the last decade, reflecting the sport’s rising popularity. Coaches and players alike credit the growth to enhanced youth programs and increased visibility in college athletics.
