‘Charging’ Johnson Breaks Winless Streak in Style to Claim Downhill World Champion Title!

Breezy Johnson from the USA just became the 2025 Downhill world champion, and she picked the perfect spot to shine.

At 29 years old, Johnson had faced 104 previous races without a win at the top level. But everything clicked on the Zwölferkogel in Saalbach, Austria.

As the first skier to go, she looked calm and collected. With a smooth run, she blew down the course, crossing the finish line in just 1 minute and 41.29 seconds. She celebrated by raising her arms to the crowd, thrilled with her performance.

In an inspiring turn of events for the underdog, local favorite Mirjam Puchner snagged the silver medal, finishing just 0.15 seconds behind Johnson. After a tough season and no wins since 2019, this was a great comeback for Puchner, who also earned Olympic Super G silver in 2022.

Taking home the bronze was Ester Ledecka from the Czech Republic. She reminded everyone of her talent just one year before the Olympic women’s Downhill in Cortina D’Ampezzo. This bronze adds to her impressive collection, which already includes three snowboard world championships, two Olympic golds in snowboarding, and a Super G gold from 2018.
