KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs enjoyed a dominant win against the Las Vegas Raiders, and a big part of that success was the return of Rashee Rice, their top receiver. Coming off a six-game suspension, Rice made an immediate impact in his season debut.
On the very first possession, Rice snagged two passes, including a 2-yard touchdown. His celebration? A fun kick of the football into the stands and a few triumphant chest bumps. “I had to bring the juice for the first touchdown of the game,” he said, capturing the emotion of the moment.
It had been a long wait for Rice, who hadn’t played for over a year due to both the suspension and a season-ending knee injury last September. His return gave quarterback Patrick Mahomes all his main weapons for the first time this season. The Chiefs capitalized, scoring on all their opening drives, allowing Mahomes and other starters to rest in the fourth quarter.
“You don’t really know how much you love something until it’s gone,” Rice reflected, expressing his relief and happiness to be back with his teammates.
Rice showed off his skills, leading the Chiefs with seven catches for 42 yards and two touchdowns. Mahomes demonstrated his trust in Rice with a no-look pass that confused two defenders, allowing for easy yardage. Rice chuckled, saying he wasn’t ready for that style, but was glad to be prepared for the ball.
This game marked the first time Rice, Xavier Worthy, and Hollywood Brown—Kansas City’s top trio—played together. Interestingly, despite having all three available, the Chiefs used three receivers on the field less frequently than usual. Rice’s work was efficient; he received 10 targets from just 16 routes, mainly on short passes.
The chemistry between Rice and Mahomes is expected to evolve. Tight end Travis Kelce emphasized this potential, saying that the full roster brings exciting possibilities to the offense.
As the season unfolds, the Chiefs have the chance to build on this momentum, with a complete lineup that already averaged over 31 points in prior games. With Rice back in the rotation, fans can look forward to electrifying performances ahead.
