Star junior Kiara Romero shined in the final round at the Stanford Intercollegiate, helping the Oregon women’s golf team secure second place at Stanford Golf Course. She fired six birdies and an eagle, finishing with a remarkable 6-under 65, tying for the best round of the tournament. This performance raised her to 9-under par overall, marking her sixth runner-up finish in her career.
Oregon finished strong, closing the event at 14-under par after shooting 7-under in the first two rounds. Stanford claimed victory at 34-under, while the Ducks finished four strokes ahead of USC.
Head coach Derek Radley praised the team’s effort against a talented field. “To shoot 14-under and place second is a great achievement,” he said. Kiara’s performance helped lead the team, but Radley acknowledged that all five players showed good moments throughout the weekend.
Romero began her round with five straight pars, then went on a tear, making three birdies and an eagle on her next six holes. A double bogey at No. 13 briefly set her back, but she quickly recovered with two more birdies before finishing with another birdie on No. 1. This marked her 30th round under 70 and her 58th performance at par or better in 72 rounds as a Duck.
Freshman Shyla Singh played solidly as well, finishing with an even-par 71. She rebounded nicely after opening the tournament with a 76. Sophomores Tong An and Sophie Han joined the mix with scores of 74, tying for 20th at 1-under.
Notably, Oregon has achieved 56 top-five finishes under Radley, illustrating the team’s growing competitive edge. They excelled on par-5 holes, shooting 22-under, and tied for the most eagles made in the tournament.
Looking ahead, the Ducks will compete at the East Lake Cup in Atlanta from October 27-29.
As the Ducks continue to showcase their skills, the focus will be on how they can refine their game and build upon this strong performance as the fall season continues. This commitment to growth could play a crucial role in their future success.
