Director Zach Cregger, known for his hit “Barbarian,” is back with his latest horror film, “Weapons.” He recently showcased a sneak peek at CinemaCon 2025 in Las Vegas, grabbing the audience’s attention. Cregger has a knack for creating unsettling experiences, and this new project seems no different.

The movie features a strong cast, including Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, and others. Garner plays an elementary school teacher who faces an unimaginable crisis. One morning, she arrives at school only to discover that her entire first-grade class has vanished overnight.

One child in the trailer ominously narrates, “Mrs. Gandy’s room was totally empty… because the night before, at 2:17 a.m., every kid woke up, got out of bed, walked downstairs and into the dark, and they never came back.” This chilling premise sets the tone for the film.

As the small town grapples with the shocking news, Garner’s character becomes the center of growing frustration from parents and school officials. The tension escalates when she starts seeing the missing kids as eerie apparitions, depicted with haunting smiles and empty eyes. Richard Brener from New Line Cinema described “Weapons” as “intriguing and unpredictable,” promising viewers an exciting ride. Cregger pointed out that the film continually evolves, keeping audiences on their toes. This unpredictability is crucial in horror, as it keeps viewers engaged from start to finish.

Given Cregger’s previous success with “Barbarian,” expectations are high. That film impressed audiences and critics alike, grossing nearly $50 million with a modest budget of $4 million. It become a standout for Warner Bros.’ streaming service, Max.

Originally set to debut in January 2026, “Weapons” has been moved up to August 2025, indicating the studio’s confidence in the film. This release will follow another anticipated title, “Together,” acquired from the Sundance Film Festival.
